Currently, there are seven advantageous industries in Hebei Province including food, steel, medicine, machinery, chemical, building materials and textile.
Advantages in food processing industry are very outstanding with a batch of well-known enterprises and renowned trademarks such as Sanlu, Lulu and Hualong and so on.
The total output of steel industry is very huge along with excellent technical equipment. In 2002, the annual outputs of pig iron and steel were 29.2105 million tons and 25.0999 million tons respectively, both taking the first place in China.
There are six large steel enterprises in Hebei including Handan Steel, Tangshan Steel, Shijiazhuang Steel, Chengde Steel, Xuanhua Steel and Xingtai Steel.
The developing basis in chemical and medicine industries is fine in Hebei, which is an important chemical and medicine base of China with outputs of chemical feedstock medicine, photosensitive materials, soda ash and barium salt holding the first place in China.
In the machinery industry, Hebei has very strong competiti-veness in the production of electric appliances, agricultural machinery, automobile and spare parts, heavy mining machinery as well as engineering machinery and so on. And the outputs of bulldozers over 165 horsepower and super high-pressure transfo-rmers take the first and the second respectively in China.
In the building material industry, the outputs of cement, glass and sanitary wares hold the fourth, the second and the second places respectively in China.
And there are a group of large-scale enterprises such as Jidong Cement, Yaohua Glass and Baoshuo Group and so on.
In the textile and garment industry, in 2002, the output of yarn was 483,000 tons and cloth was 1.595 billion meters, both holding the fifth place in China. The production of woolen yarn was 97,600 tons, the second in China. And the output and export amount of cashmere were both the first in China.
In the light industry, the outputs of 17 types of products are listed among the top ten in China with the production of daily-service ceramics, paper pulp and metal wire mesh holding the first in China. Looking beyond, the development of industry in Hebei will be focused on steel, food, medicine, chemical, machinery, new building materials, textile and garment.
